Notes: It is the most representative monument of ancient
Rome. The Coliseum had a capacity of 55,000 people, who were seated
according to rank. They even had a huge sailcloth awning for protection
against the weather. Next to the Coliseum, the Arco di Costantino
(Costantine's Arch, 315 a.C.) was erected in order to celebrate
the victory of Costantino against Emperor Massenzio at Ponte Milvio
(Milvius Bridge).
Not to be missed: Interior of the Coliseum. A small entrance
fee is charged.
